Lieutenant j.g. Ezri Dax
- Female Trill
Station's Counselor, Deep Space Nine, Bajoran Sector
Although a relative newcomer
to DS9, Counselor Ezri Dax can be listed as one of the most experienced
crewmembers on board - "by the power of nine," as she once put it. A
joined Trill, she is the host to the Dax symbiont, who lived for six
years on board the station in the form of its eighth host, Jadzia.
After this woman's murder,
the Dax symbiont was taken on board the U.S.S. Destiny to be returned
to its homeworld. En route to Trill, however, its condition began to
deteriorate, and an emergency joining was necessary for its survival.
As the only Trill on board, Ezri Tigan became the reluctant ninth host.
She sought out the guidance of her old friend Benjamin Sisko and returned
to Deep Space Nine, where she suddenly had to face the conflicting emotions
left behind by Jadzia's death. It took nearly a year before she could
resolve her feelings toward Commander Worf, who had been her husband
in her past life. Dax has called upon the experience of her former hosts
to help her, most notably when drawing on Joran's memories to stop a
serial killer. Nonetheless, she continues to build a new life as Ezri.
Her unorthodox counseling
methods are a new twist to the profession, but often prove quite effective,
as in the case of the Cardassian tailor/spy Garak.
Currently, she continues
her counseling career on the station, and is romantically involved with
Dr. Julian Bashir.
