Lt. Julian Bashir - Human Male
Chief Medical Officer, Deep Space Nine, Bajoran Sector

Julian Subatoi Bashir was born in 2341. He was the only child of Richard and Amsha Bashir. At the age of 5, Julian showed the first hint of his future talent as a doctor by restuffing and sewing his teddy bear Kukalaka. He has referred to Kukalaka as his first patient. At the age of 6, Julian was best described as small, physically awkward and not very bright. His parents, in desperation to provide him with a brighter future, left Earth for Adigeon Prime to have Julian genetically enhanced even though it was illegal. Almost every aspect of Julian was changed: mental aptitude, hand/eye coordination, stamina, vision, reflexes, weight, and height.

Julian's genetic enhancements were, of course, kept secret due to their illegality. Later on Julian was designated to be the template doctor for Starfleet's new long term medical holographic (LMH) doctor program. Julian's participation in this program was ended when his genetically enhanced status was discovered during a monitored conversation that Julian's parents were having with the LMH prototype, thinking that it was their son. Julian's being genetically enhanced would have been grounds for the revocation of his medical license and his discharge from Starfleet, as these are professions restricted from those who have been genetically enhanced. However, this was avoided due to a deal that was made between the Starfleet Judge Advocate General's Office and Richard Bashir, requiring Richard to serve two years in a minimum security penal colony in New Zealand.

Julian attended Starfleet Academy Medical School, graduating second in his class overall in 2369. During his final oral exams, he mistook a preganglionic fiber for a post ganglionic nerve.

After his graduation and with the rank of Lieutenant JG, Julian secured his requested posting as Chief Medical Officer of station Deep Space Nine. Julian who had specialized in multi-species medicine chose Deep Space Nine to practice "frontier medicine" and to be out where "heroes are made". Julian has had many accomplishments during his career as a doctor, the latest of which included curing the Founder's disease, an act which led to the end of the Dominion War. Julian is currently a full Lieutenant, having been promoted in 2372. Currently he's actively pushing Starfleet and the Federation to organize a large-scale relief mission to Cardassia Prime, still in ruins at the hand of the Dominion. He is romantically involved with DS9 counselor Ezri Dax.
