Quark - Ferengi Male
Proprietor, Quark's Bar and Casino, Deep Space Nine, Bajoran Sector

Who better to run a bar on a Bajoran space station than a man who worships Profits?

Quark, a scheming Ferengi businessman (is the any other kind?) saw an opportunity for profit running a bar, along with various entertainment facilities, for the Cardassians on the space station Terok Nor. But the Cardassians withdrew from Bajor, and Quark was ready to take his latinum and run until then-Commander Sisko "persuaded" him to stay to keep morale alive by holding his nephew Nog under arrest. Quark seemed to have landed on his feet, with the discovery of the Worm Hole bringing religious Bajorans, scientists and the just-plain-curious to Deep Space 9 to witness this phenomenon, and perhaps partake of a game of Dabo while there.

But Quark wasn't happy with just his takings from the bar, and strived to find more latinum by turning to petty, and sometimes not so petty, crime. His adversary Odo, the station Chief of Security, seemed always to be one step ahead of Quark, yet still Quark managed to weasel his way out of more serious trouble. Add to this his many run-ins with the FCA, courtesy of the evil Brunt; a brother, Rom, who turned his back on the bar to work for Chief O'Brien and married a Bajoran female who wears clothes; a nephew who joined Starfleet and spends his time in the company of hew-mons drinking root beer; and a mother ("Moogie") who had the audacity to make profit for herself before winning the heart of Grand Nagus Zek, set about changing Ferengi culture forever and finally persuaded Zek to name Rom, and not model citizen Quark, as his successor to the position of Grand Nagus, and one can see Quark's life has not been quiet. But despite his cold manner towards the crew of DS9, Quark has shown on many occasions that he's not all bad; he used his business contacts to help Sisko find the Founders, he worked with Ziyal to break Kira, Rom, Jake and Leeta out of the holding cells allowing them to aid Sisko in getting DS9 back from Dominion hands, and he even went on a Klingon mission in the name of Jadzia Dax to help her to enter Sto Vo Kor.

Even though there have been a lot of changes in the past few months, they seems mostly to have passed Quark by. He can still be found behind his bar, concocting more ways to obtain latinum, watering down his drinks and having long heated debates with his loyal customer Morn.
