Shakaar Edon – Bajoran male
First Minister of Bajor

Shakaar is former resistance hero of the Bajoran Occupation and leader of the Shakaar cell in Dahkur Province (of which Kira was a member). He returned to farming after the liberation, trying to restore his poisoned land. He reluctantly entered politics during an agricultural crisis when it appeared Winn was going to become First Minister as well as Kai, controlling both the political and religious arenas. Shakaar’s history and reputation gave him popular support, and he was elected First Minister.

Shakaar has a reputation as a ladies’ man. However, he and Kira were romantically involved for a time, and even contemplated marriage until a visit to the Kenda shrine indicated it was not the will of the Prophets that they would walk their life's paths together, at which they sadly parted as lovers. They remain friends and comrades, however, and each is one of the other’s strongest supporters. Shakaar has asked Kira to serve Bajor in diplomatic and intelligence missions on his behalf, and numerous Starfleet admirals know the best way to Shakaar’s ear is through Kira.

With the Kai dead, the Emissary gone, the Dominion War over, and a shifting political relationship between Bajor and the Federation, the pressure upon Shakaar has increased, and he is seriously contemplating leaving politics to return to his beloved farm in Dahkur Province. He has however determined he won't resign as First Minister until a new Kai is elected and Bajor joins the Federation, or until he’s voted out of office. He is currently battling an increasingly vocal portion of the Bajoran population that rejects joining the Federation and supports solely Bajoran control of both sides of the Wormhole. He’s getting tired ... and tired people can make mistakes.
